Television icon Bill Bixby, who graced the screens of millions of television households through his roles on The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, The Magician, The Incredible Hulk and other popular network shows throughout the 1970s and ’80s, will be the subject of the Tuesday, April 15 edition of Talking Television with Dave White. Broadcast begins at 10:30pm ET, 7:30pm PT on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org. Scheduled to join Frankie Montiforte and me are actor/musician Brandon Cruz, Bixby’s co-star on Eddie’s Father; Renee Tufo, who is leading a campaign to win posthumous induction for Bixby in the Television Academy Hall of Fame; and J. Kingston Pierce, senior editor of January Magazine, whose writings on Bixby include coverage of The Magician, the popular Bixby series credited for triggering the current wave of stage magicians such as David Copperfield, Criss Angel and Penn & Teller. A nice sentiment but only for the fans’ benefit, not for Mr. Bixby since it never happened for him. It can never bring satisfaction and for that reason doesn’t mean much in reality, particularly since it doesn’t come from them and we have to “petition” for it! The fans need to help get “The Magician” (1973) released on DVD before the reels are forever damaged and lost. Thanks for your comments, Magician. Let me add that Bixby’s family is also involved in the campaign, so in that respect it’s not entirely for the benefit of the fans only. But your point is well taken.
As for your other point, we received many comments from listeners who felt our discussion of The Magician series was given short shrift. So by popular demand we have decided to devote an entire hour to discussion of The Magician. That program will air Tuesday, May 15 from 11pm-midnight ET (8-9m PT) on Share-a-Vision Radio, KSAV.org. I will definitely mention the Magician DVD petition that night, although if you should be home that evening, I invite you to call or email yourself, should the Spirit move you.
